Quentin Geczy
Medical Student
Quentin Geczy is currently based in London. He began his academic journey at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where he pursued a degree before moving to the University of Sydney Medical School. At Sydney, he completed two years of study. He plans to continue his medical studies closer to home in Europe. Alongside his medical education, he is working toward establishing an entrepreneurial path in consulting and finance, particularly healthcare.
Quentin has remained deeply engaged with health and education throughout his medical school application process. He leads a thriving private education business, supporting students in STEM subjects and assisting them with university admissions. In addition to his tutoring work, he is also developing an online company that provides educational materials for UK high school exams (GCSEs, A-Levels), medical exams such as the BMAT, UCAT, GAMSAT, and MCAT, and SAT preparation.
Academic Background
After graduating from high school in Australia, Quentin moved to the United States in 2016 to follow his passion for science and economics. At Yale University, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Molecular Cellular Development Biology (MCDB) and Economics. He studied a wide range of subjects in economics, including macro and microeconomics, finance, and accounting. He also developed and worked with large datasets using R and applied theoretical models to tackle complex qualitative and quantitative issues. These experiences have honed his analytical skills, enabling him to approach complex systems and problems with a well-rounded perspective.
His studies in MCDB extended beyond his pre-med courses, and his thesis focused on the “Psychedelic Renaissance in Psychiatry.” In this work, he examined the 5-HT2A receptor and its interaction with serotonergic psychedelics, particularly their role in promoting neuroplasticity. This research is part of the growing body of knowledge that is reshaping mental health treatments for conditions like depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD.
Quentin’s dual focus on Economics and MCDB provided him with a multidisciplinary education, offering him a strong foundation in clinical reasoning, public health, and the communication skills needed to explain complex concepts. This broad education also allows him to approach challenges from multiple angles, an essential skill in modern healthcare.
In addition to his academic achievements, he was also a Division I Varsity Athlete, where he excelled in Lightweight Crew. He was the Eastern Sprints Champion and placed second at the USA U23 Lightweight Men’s Quad National Team Selection Regatta. Balancing the demands of elite athletics with his academic workload taught him valuable lessons in discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership.
His Pursuit of Medicine
From a young age, Quentin Geczy has been committed to pursuing a career in medicine. His interest in the field began when, at the age of thirteen, he suffered a fractured femur in a cycling accident. The injury required an extended period of rehabilitation, during which he gained firsthand insight into the significant impact orthopedic care can have on recovery. In the years that followed, he faced additional health challenges, including another cycling accident that resulted in a subdural hematoma, cervical spine fractures, and severe dental trauma. While these injuries ultimately ended his athletic career, they deepened his admiration for the medical professionals who helped him recover.
After completing his studies at Yale, Quentin attended the University of Sydney Medical School, recognized among the world's top medical schools. His clinical interests include Orthopedic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and General Surgery, influenced by his academic education and personal experiences as a patient and athlete.
During his two years at Sydney, Quentin completed all required coursework and wrote his MD thesis on “Demographic and Clinical Features of Patients Diagnosed with Achalasia.” His clinical rotations, which took place at Royal North Shore Hospital, covered various specialties in both hospital and community settings. One of his rotations was in Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine, where he gained experience in consultation-liaison psychiatry, inpatient mental health care, drug and alcohol treatment, and community-based services. He also received critical care training in emergency medicine, anesthetics, trauma response, and intensive care. In addition, he worked in pulmonology, urology, neurosurgery, and general surgery, and his general practice rotation gave him experience in patient history-taking and physical exams. He also completed allied health rotations, which offered pharmacy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, podiatry, psychology, and acupuncture exposure.
Quentin also contributed to the research as a published volunteer at Sydney Musculoskeletal Health, where he co-authored two articles: "What is the most effective and safest Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for treating osteoarthritis in patients with comorbidities?" and "Appraisal of quality and analysis of the similarities and differences between osteoarthritis Clinical Practice Guideline recommendations: A systematic review."
His earlier clinical experiences include working at Dr. Keith Bush's private clinic in London, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Diakonissenkrankenhaus in Germany, providing valuable clinical exposure.
Quentin’s Private Tutoring and Education Consultancy Business
For five years, Quentin has offered tutoring in biology, chemistry, physics, and tutoring mathematics. He has worked with gifted students preparing for the Biology & Chemistry Olympiads and has helped numerous students prepare for various exams. Additionally, he has guided student-athletes in navigating the complex recruiting process for US Division I colleges, assisting them with school selection, cover letter writing, and application essays. His business quickly grew to a client base of 30 within six months, and he has maintained strong relationships with his clients, helping them secure successful admissions to their chosen universities.
Multilingual and Passionate About Health
Fluent in English, French, and German, Quentin holds citizenship in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany. He remains committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle outside his academic and professional pursuits. He enjoys cycling, running, swimming, and skiing, contributing to his physical and mental well-being.
Quentin Geczy’s combination of education, clinical experience, and entrepreneurial efforts makes him well-rounded. His background in medicine and business and his passion for education allow him to bridge the gap between healthcare, business, and teaching. Whether through his contributions to medical research, his role as an educator, or his entrepreneurial ventures, he is dedicated to making a positive impact. He continues to build a career that integrates his diverse interests in healthcare, education, and business, and his future looks bright as he moves forward in his pursuits. His commitment to excellence in all aspects of his life makes him a valuable asset to any endeavor he undertakes.
